Adverse Weather Warnings
Adverse weather in Tenerife? Don't you believe it! No, really there are odd occasions when even "paradise" gets a bit of wind and rain, a calima (Saharan Air Layer) or a heatwave (thankfully, only the occasional extratropical cyclone) and you should be aware of a few precautions:
Winter Weather Warnings: are generally for wind and rain. Risks are from rockfalls and landslides in mountainous areas or gorges, or from things falling off building sites. You're advised to keep out of the sea and to stay away from sea walls. Four meter waves crashing may be an amazing sight, but they'd grab you and have you tumbling towards the bottom of the Atlantic before you could catch your breath!
Summer Weather Warnings: unaccustomed heat can affect anyone adversely, but poses a particular threat to special risk groups, such as; young children, old people, pregnant women and the chronically infirm. Stay in the shade, particularly between 11 am and 4 pm, drink plenty of water (avoid alcohol) and don't overdo the work or sports activities (as if you would?) The authorities often ask people to avoid going up into the mountains (because of the increased forest fire risk) and usually impose an outright ban on lighting barbecues and campfires in risk areas.
If in doubt, don't. For medical attention, call 112.
