Jennifer Lopez in Tenerife Bikini Pictures

Jennifer Lopez Bikini PicturesThe international media up to its usual standards again.

When they're not poking fun at Marc Anthony's thinness or the alleged size of Jennifer Lopez' bum (which looks perfectly normal sized to me), they just can't imagine that anything else goes on in Tenerife, except, since they think it's only a holiday resort, people must be here on holiday.

Well, they could be, of course, but there is a lot more goes on and to the island, other than resorts, as we keep trying to tell people here.

Anyway, the celebrity couple, along with twins Max and Emme (and, it appears from the photos, Jennifer's sister, Linda) were not here in Tenerife merely on vacation, but were here at the start or Marc Anthony's Spanish tour, which began with a concert on the south of Tenerife last Friday.

Famously in Tenerife ...

The QE2 in Santa Cruz harbour, Tenerife, for the last time on Friday, June 20th, 2008. Click to embiggen.

Queen Elizabeth 2 in Santa Cruz harbour on Friday, June 20th, 2008. (Photo: Maduroman) The QE2 made her last visit to Tenerife and a massive firework display marked the end of her final visit to Santa Cruz, last Friday.

Puerto Rican singer, Marc Anthony arrived on the island on Friday, to play Saturday night's concert in Arona and, was accompanied by wife, Jennifer Lopez and the twins. Sunday, the family hoped over to Gran Canaria.

Tenerife might prefer not to be in the international limelight quite so much as it has been in the last few days, over the "revelation" that "po-faced and hatchet-hearted" Heather Mills found true love / a toyboy on the island.

Jamie Walker's reported salary of "just £800 a month" ain't much, but it would be a lot more than many people earn in Tenerife. But I'm sure there could be other reasons for dating a famous, rich and newly single tourist ...

While Wayne Rooney spent £250,000 on his four-day stag party in Ibiza, before his recent nuptials in Italy, his bride-to-be, Coleen McLoughlin, had to make do with slumming it on a budget hen do in Tenerife.

Puerto de la Cruz is to have it's 15 minutes of fame in Paris, with the presentation of a documentary on the life of Agustín de Betancourt.

Palmair (website), the tiny airline that provides flights from Bournemouth airport to Tenerife, have again become famous as the third best in the world and the top rated airline flying from the UK, beating rivals including Virgin Atlantic and British Airways, because of its personal service and attention to details, such as putting flowers in the toilets of its Boeing 737.

In rather less positive news on the airline front, Tenerife hit the international news when a mechanic was sucked into the engine of an Airbus at Tenerife's south airport on Monday. The report is a bit detailed and gory.

And, internationally famous, Cuban hip-hop group Orishas, appeared in Tenerife again, on Las Teresitas beach, last night during the San Juan celebrations to dip the toe of their new album into the waters.

Will Jennifer be coming this time?

Last time Puerto Rican singer, Marc Anthony played in Tenerife (in October 2006), he was accompanied, both on the trip and on the stage, by the wife; Jennifer López. Here they both are, singing No me ames in Tenerife.

This weekend, the El Cantante star begins his Spanish tour with a concert in Arona, Tenerife on Saturday, as part of the Aguaviva Canarias 2008 festival.

But the question of everyone's lips (well, it was on mine and is certainly on those of the staff of 20minutos.es), is whether the wife (and the young twins even) will also be coming along on the tour. It's said that Marc Anthony will be arriving to Tenerife in a private jet and trailing along a staff of more than 50 people, so you'd imagine he could run to the expense of a babysitter.

For those of you who don't know much of his work, here's an early one; a long haired Marc Anthony in a duet with La India - Vivir Lo Nuestro. This duet, with Gloria Estefan (who is also slated to be playing in Tenerife, later in the year), singing Gloria's, Mi Tierra, is stronger than the original with el flaco's help.

And above is a video of a young Marc Anthony singing something you're bound to recognize: Hotel California and he's certainly not making a shoddy job of it!

Y Jennifer, ¿vendrá esta vez?

What's on in Tenerife in June 2008?

On June 16th, Hed Kandi's flying disco makes one of three visits to Tenerife this summer. Never mind that it's the same banging tunes you could hear in London or Manchester. They don't get the weather in those places, for some reason! :)

Flying HatMeanwhile, June gets off to a flying start here with the Romeria San Isidro Labrador y Santa María de la Cabeza (folk festival in traditional Canarian dress) in La Orotava, held, this year on Sunday, June 1st.

It's been hailed as The Prettiest Fiesta in the Canary Islands and is probably the biggest of this type, in which, around 75 carts and 25,000 people take part.

More photos: first here's a set from the Romeria en La Orotava Junio 2007 and this (with an excellent description, in English, by an American who took part), was from the previous year. Going a bit further back in history, a wonderful b/w image of a bygone Romería de San Isidro en la villa de la Orotava.

Calle La Noria Santa CruzSanta Blues Festival 2008

Santa Cruz' annual blues festival, includes; The Robert Cray Band (06/06), EvilMrSod (13/6 and 27/6), Keiko (13/6) and the Orange Blues Band (27/6)

The Santa Blues Festival takes place in and around the Calle La Noria area in the capital city's old quarter.

Fiestas de Granadilla de Abona 2008

The fiestas that started on Friday in Granadilla will be going on for most of the month. On Sunday, June 8th, they have their traditional Romeria. On Saturday, June 14th, Tenerife's own reggaeton duo, K-Narias in Concert. The festivities all culminate with the Granadilla Rally on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd June.

Zucchero in Concert

Italian singer, Zucchero is in concert as part of his ?All the best 2008? tour, at the Pabellón Municipal de Deportes de Santa Cruz (Municipal Sports Center) in Santa Cruz, on Friday, June 6th.

Aguaviva Canarias 2008

Marc Anthony (King of Salsa, Mr. Jennifer Lopez, June 21st) and Jamiroquai (June 14th) are among the artists at this year's Aguaviva Canarias 2008 festival, which runs from June 1st to 22nd. See our calendar for more details.

Siente 2008 Festival

Digital images and electronic music (not to mention alcohol and other substances probably) mix to create a bunch of sensations you couldn't have had before new technologies got into music and art. Friday June 20th and Saturday, June 21st in the Plaza de la Constitución, in La Orotava. More ...

Gorgeous GoatsThe Night of San Juan

Spend the night of San Juan, June 23rd, at Playa Jardín, Puerto de la Cruz, by the light of the bonfires. Read more about June's high days and magic nights and, about that and the June 24th goat dipping tradition in A Midsummer Night?s Dream. More Solstice silliness and Midsummer madness here.

The Circus Came to La Laguna Town

Actually, the Gran Circo Mundial is at the La Laguna university campus, from May 29th to June 22nd. Advisory: This circus seems to still employ animals if that bothers you.

Wine Fiesta in Los Cristianos

Also on Friday, June 6th, in the plaza del puerto (square by the port) in Los Cristianos, there is to be a wine festival. Presumably you'll be able to try some samples. Hic!

And if you like bargains, this is an essential date for your diary! 5 days of fuddling (June 11th to 15th) at Exposaldo 08, at the Centro Internacional de Ferias y Congresos de Tenerife (International Fairs and Congress Center), in Santa Cruz. Annual fair dedicated to liquidation of merchandise, sales and stock clearance. Textiles, shoes, jewellery, electrical appliances, furniture, toys, kitchenware, other seasonal and miscellaneous items ... as well as well as 1,000 sq. m of vehicles (second hand, ex-showroom, special offers.)

There are more fiestas in Tenerife this June than we could possibly list here.

Canarias Fiesta appear to have three pages of them. Currently, many of them are without details and just listed as happening in June, so we have no more info to give you, except to say, that I'll bet there's one near you at some point!

And, still we're only scratching the surface. If you consult our calendar, you'll find that there are loads more events; music, exhibitions, guided walks, sports, etc. People add links to their own events on our MySpace page (which is what we set it up for), so you may see something there, before we can and add it to the calendar or write about it here.

For the next couple of weeks or so we suggest you do keep an eye on those sources, because we will be without an internet connection, so we won't be here to post much new stuff (and we won't be able to answer your emails either.)

And here's where you'll find all the Tenerife related news that didn't fit ...

The Biggest Ever Concert In South Tenerife

Marc Anthony
Originally uploaded by beira-mar.
Almost 500 people have been involved in the preparations for Marc Anthony's concert tonight in Playa de Las Americas, three hundred of whom are providing security, among them; Red Cross, Civil Protection services, Local Police, National Police, Fire services and the Civil Guard, as well as private security.

Another hundred people have been involved in the production of the concert and the construction of the staging, to which must be added the forty or so people, including musicians, who travelled with Marc Anthony and his wife, Jennifer Lopez, to the island and the team of twenty who are here to record the event for MTV.

All in all, it is the biggest ever paid concert that has ever been held in the south of Tenerife and one of the most expensive in the history of the Canary Islands: an event that the local authorities are, perhaps understandably, calling "historical".

Tenerife singer, Nauzet (who will be performing next week in Buenavista del Norte), has been added to the lineup for the concert that now starts earlier, at 8.30 p.m.

Additional tickets seem to have been released on drip feed: on Tuesday, around 28,000 of the original 30,000 had already been sold. Today, Rider Promotions y Oye Producciones confirmed that, due to the huge public demand, another 2,000 were to be put on sale and, at this rate, they may well fill the 40,000 capacity stadium. The box office also was opening earlier than previously advertised, at 4 p.m.

Beware of Stolen Tickets

Nothing is ever without incident and, it is also reported that a group of four youths robbed the Music Line store in San Isidro (Granadilla) and made off with the contents of the cash register, which as well as money, contained 100 tickets for Marc Anthony's concert - numbered between 1.751 a 1.850. Music Line, as well as the concert organizers, believe that the thieves will attempt to sell these tickets. Music Line expect that the police will be able to apprehend the youths as the store has security cameras and film of the robbery shows the face of one of the robbers.

Jennifer Lopez Goes Shopping With Mother

Jennifer Lopez
Originally uploaded by MangaloreCity.com.
Not at all unsurprisingly, all the media in Tenerife today is focussed closely on Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony, who will be giving an "historical" concert tonight at the Estadio Olímpico Playa de Las Américas.

The couple have been relaxing the hotel Villa Cortés since their arrival on Monday, hardly leaving their suite. Reports suggest that they have been dining, late at night, on anchovy pizza and Mexican food.

Meanwhile, the hotel Villa Cortés, is said to be very content with their new tenants and are reported to have said that Marc Anthony is very pleasant and agreeable. Amongst curiosities, it is said that the couple order around ten bottles of water a day.

Fans, who had waited in vain for hours over the last couple of days, were finally awarded a glimpse of Jennifer Lopez yesterday, who together with her mother, went shopping to the exclusive shop, Scada, in the Centro Comercial Bahía del Duque to buy an outfit she'd seen in a magazine.

Those who would have liked to have browsed with the star would have been unlucky though as the establishment was closed to the public so that J.Lo could indulge in her well known passion for shopping undisturbed. While they were out, they spent a few hours to have a manicure and pedicure, leaving a substantial 40 euro tip.

Afterwards, Lopez went with Marc Anthony to the stadium to supervise the rehearsals for tonight's show and for the MTV "Live in Tenerife" recording.

Marc Anthony & Jennifer López Arrive in Tenerife

Marc Anthony and his wife, singer and actress, Jennifer López, arrived at Tenerife's Reina Sofia airport last night by private jet, accompanied by strong security measures and an entourage of around 100 people, report La Opinión.

Marc Anthony and Jennifer López arrived in Tenerife at around 9 p.m. to be met by two Audi's with tinted windows, which took the couple to the hotel Villa Cortés - a 5 Star hotel (naturally), built in the style of a Mexican hacienda - in Arona, where 50 rooms have been reserved for them and their entourage while they are here in Tenerife for the concert, "Live in Tenerife", which will be held at the Estadio Olímpico Playa de Las Américas, on Thursday.

The musicians, who had arrived at around 3:30 p.m., says the report, carried their instruments by hand and took taxis, private cars and busses to get to the hotel.

News released last week that Lopez would also perform at this, the final concert of Marc Anthony's Spanish tour, have certainly bumped up the ticket sales.

Almost all of the original 30,000 have been sold and organizers are studying the possibility of raising it to 35,000. Also on the bill are Rosario Flores, Antonio Carmona (of Ketama) and flamenco dancers, Barullo, El Farru y José Maya.

The concert starts at 9 p.m. and doors to the stadium open at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Jennifer López to sing with hubby, Marc Anthony, at his Tenerife concert on October 19

Jennifer López will share the stage with her husband, singer Marc Anthony, during his concert on October 19th. This was confirmed yesterday by vice president of the Tenerife Island Corporation, José Manuel Bermúdez, who also said that it is 99% certain that the show will be recorded by MTV to later, be shown worldwide. There are just a couple of small agreements still to be ironed out on this, apparently.

It is not yet known which songs that Jennifer López will sing together with her husband, but it is known that she will me making an appearance at the Estadio Olímpico Playa de Las Américas (Olympic Stadium of Las Américas) in Los Cristianos to sing "two or three numbers." The concert is also being recorded by Televisión Canaria, who have the rights to the recording for the whole of Spain.

Authorities are expecting a crowd of 25,000 and say that never before has there been an opportunity to record a concert of this category and bring it to a worldwide audience, which is an incalculable value for the promotion of the Canary Islands. The Government hopes to include some tourist promotion images in the recording.

Bermúdez underlined that the authorities have been working for two or three years on making Tenerife the location for world class concerts. During 2006, he reminded that artists of the calibre of Shakira, Craig David and the Chemical Brothers had been brought to the island. Continuing this line, the vice president - who sustains that these concerts are not products of the pre-election period in which we find ourselves - mentioned future dates, among them, that on December 3, symphonic rock band, Electric Light Orchestra, will play the Auditorio de Tenerife.

Bermúdez believes that this year has been one of the most historically important years from the point of view of musical events on the island.

Final confirmation: Marc Anthony won't perform in Gran Canaria and will perform in Tenerife

Finally, Canarias7 report, Marc Anthony will not be performing in Gran Canaria on October 19th, as had been announced by his record company (see this report).

The Puerto Rican singer will shortly commence his Spanish tour and, despite having originally been reserved for the date on October 19th in Gran Canaria, fans will have to "try their luck" in Arona, Tenerife, where - as reported earlier - he will be performing at the [somewhat grandly named] Estadio Olímpico Playa de Las Américas (Olympic Stadium of Playa de Las Américas), in Los Cristianos on that date.

The reason why the Gran Canaria concert is not going ahead, say Canarias7, is due to the "scarce institutional implication" that the promoters, MB Producciones, have found in the island. According to the promoters, the Gran Canaria Island Corporation had sought an agreement, in writing, for the concert to be celebrated in the Estadio de Gran Canaria and to be later shown throughout the world on MTV.

With a tone of some bitterness, they add, "Nevertheless, Tenerife have not only achieved the necessary assistance for the celebration of the concert, but also the Tenerife Corporation negotiated that it will be shown on MTV and, also that the the singer's wife, Jennifer Lopez, will perform, along with other international artists."

(Never mind Gran Canaria, think of all the money you've saved.)

Marc Anthony Live in Tenerife

Marc Anthony to promote Tenerife and his upcoming "Live in Tenerife" concert on the island on MTV.

A seemingly very excited Tenerife Island Corporation brings us up to date on the negotiations for Marc Anthony's concert that will be taking place in Los Cristianos, Tenerife on the 19th of this month.

It's confirmed that the event is to be recorded by MTV, which will later be televised around the world, at the same time promoting the island of Tenerife.

"Without doubt", says the Cabildo's vice president, "this is the best means for the island to become known outside." This hypothetical agreement, say EL DÍA, is to include an appearance by the singer's wife, Jennifer López, as well as other well known artists, whose names have not yet been divulged. The concert in Tenerife is to be special, by Marc Anthony's own decision and, "very soon the organizers will confirm notable surprises for a concert that will be historic in the islands."

Marc Anthony To Close Spanish Tour In Tenerife

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony at the 2006 Time 100, as covered by vlog Rocketboom.According to Terra Actualidad - Europa Press, it is now confirmed that Puerto Rican-American singer-songwriter,Marc Anthony, will end his Spanish tour with a concert in the south of Tenerife, on Thursday, October 19th in the Estadio Olímpico Playa de Las Américas, in Los Cristianos, Arona at 21:00.

The singer, husband of Jennifer Lopez, who accompanied him to the Canary Islands on his last visit in February 2005, drew a crowd of more than 30,000, when he promised to come back to Tenerife.

Tickets for the show, which are being put on sale, initially, through El Corte Inglés and CajaCanarias, will also be available from Discos Manzana, Deportes Salud and Music Line. Prices: 24 Euros in advance, 25 Euros on the door.

NOTE: It was previously confirmed (and here) that Anthony would be playing in Gran Canaria on October 19th and, even having searched, I can find no other article to alter or refute that. Therefore, there is a 50% chance that one of these locations is correct ... Or he's a very clever bloke who can be in two places at once.

Marc Anthony to Perform in Tenerife

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony at the 2006 Time 100, as covered by vlog Rocketboom.Diario de Avisos report that "in all probability", Puerto Rican-American singer-songwriter, Marc Anthony (otherwise known as Mr. Jennifer Lopez) will perform in Los Cristianos, Tenerife in October. The singer was given a spectacular welcome by Canary Island public during his performance in Santa Cruz, in February.

Mayor of Arona, José Alberto González Reverón, says that they still need to have some meetings with the Canary Islands Government and the Tenerife Island Corporation. Without the costs of staging, sound, accommodation and other non-musical items, the event will cost 300,000 euros, according municipal sources. (Sounds to me like they need to have a whip round! :)

Of course, they hope to earn that back and more with the extra tourism that the show - and the visit, especially if he brings the wife - will inevitably attract.
