Canary Islands from the Columbia shuttle
Though the Canary Islands are tiny specks, Tenerife's Mount Teide is still visible on this image, captured by the Columbia shuttle, which broke up on February 1st, 2003.
It's fascinating to think that down there, all those tiny lights in the eastern half are cities full of people and, if you think back to how unclear photos from space were just a short time ago, it's a marvel in itself.
