Miss Tenerife 2007
Undoubtedly, the biggest event occurring in Tenerife this weekend is the Miss Tenerife beauty pageant that is to be held in the area around the 17th Century Castillo Negro, in Santa Cruz, from 9 p.m. tonight.
This gala is back in Tenerife's capital for the first time in 14 years and entrance is FREE.
Some 37 candidates, aged between 17 and 26, will be fighting it out for a chance to go forward to the Miss Espa�a (Miss Spain) contest.
The Miss Tenerife Gala will include performances of various artists (doesn't say who) and, is to be presented by Esther G�mez of Televisi�n Canaria and model and former Miss Las Palmas and Miss Espa�a 1987, Sonsoles Artigas.
Miss Tenerife has gone on to become Miss Spain 4 times since the these contests were allowed again in 1961 (beauty pageants had previously been banned by Franco's dictatorship); a record only beaten by Andaluc�a.
Last year's Miss Tenerife, 22 year old, Adriana Rever�n Moreno, was the first runner-up to Miss Spain. When she was asked what she would do the next day, she replied that she'd eat all the chocolate she could!

5th Canary Island Motor Show
Sunday is the last day of the V Sal�n del Autom�vil de Canarias (5th Canary Island Motor Show); the region's leading motor exhibition at the Instituci�n Ferial de Tenerife (International Fair and Congress Centre) in Santa Cruz, with 18,000 square meters of the latest offerings from vehicle manufacturers and distributors. Tickets cost 5 euros and include participation in a raffle in which the prize is 12,000 euros to be spent on a vehicle.

Festival Antigua M�sica La Laguna 2007
The final free concert in the season of seven given under the title of the Festival 'Antigua M�sica' (Festival of Ancient Music), Tratado de Glosas de Diego de Ortiz, takes place at 8.30 p.m. in the former convent of Santo Domingo de Guzm�n in La Laguna tonight, Saturday.
Masdanza XII Edici�n
The Festival Internacional de Danza Contempor�nea de Canarias (Canary Islands' International Contemporary Dance Festival), Masdanza, that is being celebrated in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, also brings six performances to Tenerife this weekend. Masdanza XII Edici�n is at the Auditorio de Tenerife on Sunday, October 28th at 9 p.m. and at the Teatro Victoria (C/ M�ndez Nu�ez, 36, Santa Cruz. Tel: 922 29 05 78.)

Fiestas de Guaza 2007
For traditional fiestas this week, you only need go as far as Guaza in Arona (one stop up the motorway from Los Cristianos), where they are holding their annual Fiestas de Guaza 2007 (a.k.a. Fiestas de Santa Teresita del Ni�o Jes�s y San Jer�nimo 2007) with mass, followed by a procession from 8 p.m., tonight Saturday, followed by a knees up to salsa orchestras Wamampy and Fortaleza from 23:00. There are bouncy castles and games for children from 1 p.m. and a foam party at 5 p.m. on Sunday, with another dance in the evening, starting from 10 p.m.
Other fiestas this week include the Fiestas de La Milagrosa 2007 in El Ortigal, La Laguna and the Fiestas de San Mart�n de Porres - Los Andenes 2007 in Taco, La Laguna. Orquestas Canarias will give you the rest of the listings for salsa / fiesta bands in the islands this weekend.
