Alert Declared for Heavy Rains in Tenerife

Just in: The forecast has been upped to the point of declaring a state of alert in the various islands of the Province of Tenerife; from 18:00 in the north, east, west and peaks of La Palma; from 22:00 in the island of La Gomera and in the whole of Tenerife and, from midnight in the southeast and northeast of the island of El Hierro.

This alert for an "adverse meteorological phenomenon" in which rains of up to 60 liters per square meter in 12 hours are expected, is currently predicted to end at midnight on Thursday. The Canary Islands government is recommending that people stay in their homes if at all possible and, if you do have to go out, stick to the main roads and autopistas rather than the secondary roads and forest tracks.

I like the bit of the advice that says, "If the vehicle commences to fill with water, it's better to abandon it." They sure know vehicles on these islands well! :)

Oh all the usual things, like interruptions in the electrical supply, indoor lakes related to leaking roof and plenty of large rocks washed down onto the road. That thunder was quite scary last night. I think it must have been quite close to us here.
