Tenerife mega tunnel inevitable, says Melchior

The long-cherished dream of politicians to link Tenerife’s north and south via a tunnel has been resurrected in the wake of plans to extend a rail network northward from Tacoronte as far as Los Realejos. If it becomes reality the valleys of La Orotava in the north and Güímar in the south will be connected by an awe-inspiring 16 kilometre long rail tunnel. The journey would take a mere 5 minutes and revolutionise transport and islanders’ way of life.
