Four month forest fire alert in Tenerife

The annual firewatch campaign got underway in Tenerife on June 15 and everybody, islanders and visitors alike, are asked to respect the mountain forest code and help keep the risk of fire at bay. A relatively rainy winter has encouraged abundant undergrowth and the consequent threat of wildfires is all that much greater. Although at present no restrictions have been placed on the lighting of fires in designated recreational zones, the authorities will have no hesitation in implementing them should the weather turn risky.
