Roundabout art in Tenerife
The new roundabout at the Los Gigantes exit has finally been finished, a little later than expected, but it was certainly worth the wait. Passers-by were surprised to see this rather large, elegant lady taking a stroll across the zebra crossing on the day of the opening and she soon attracted a crowd of fascinated onlookers. She was hauled into her resting place on top of the new fountain by crane and looked resplendent in the afternoon sunshine.

Oh, I dunno, the British visitors don't make a bad job of mucking it up on Canarian roundabouts either. Especially when they have to go round them the "wrong way" and they're the ones where you have right of way to get on, but must wait your turn to get off.

An unappreciated form of abstract art is the way many Canarians drive around roundabouts. Unaccustomed as they are to these new fangled traffic systems, they tend to be thrown into a panic and drive a wiggly line around them. I recently saw an article in the press (El Dia, I think), instructing Canarians on the art of tackling a roundabout. I can report, though, that it has made no difference at all. Mostly it's just eyes shut, accelerator down.
I'd love to take Canarians to Milton Keynes and watch the fun.
