Above Me Only Sky
"Living on the north west coast of Tenerife, it’s impossible to ignore Mount Teide.", says the author of this article in Living Tenerife Magazine. Like the author, I live in north west Tenerife and agree that the mountain's mere presence cannot be ignored, even if you can't see if from where I am.
Unlike the author though, I took the cable car on the only occasion I went up to the top of the volcano. Personally - since I had my eyes closed and my hand held all the way - this alone takes some courage, but the experience just has to be that much more authentic if you climb up on foot.

LOL! Yes, they should publish a set of dress code guidelines for going up the mountain. I know Tenerife is reputedly warm, but most tourists have seen photos of Teide in snow. You'd think they'd have a clue.
The day I went up with a Finnish girlfriend of mine, we giggled like schoolgirls over a man in the queue behind us, who she was certain was a Fin. He was dressed in a miniscule pair of black, shiny swimming trunks with brown lace-up leather shoes and grey socks. Nothing else.
I have also written for most of the local English language newspapers and magazines. Unfortunately, they generally pay 100% less than your recently reported Google earnings. :) But let me know when you scrawl something, so I can mention it.

I, too have braved the cable car. Daughter and I ascended, bundled in our warmest clothes, teeth chattering and extremities turning blue. Beside us stood and English guy, nonchalently grinning back in T shirt and shorts. I still shudder to remember... brrrr.
Thanks for the link... and nice to see you quoting one of the locals rags I scrawl in!
