Zapatero Suspends Visit to Gran Canaria
Spain's President, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who is at present on holiday on the Canary Island of Lanzarote, has had to postpone today's visit to the mountain areas of Gran Canaria, recently damaged by fire, after he tore a ligament playing basketball with friends yesterday.
Zapatero, his wife and two daughters spent yesterday morning - his 45th Birthday - visiting the islet nature reserve of La Graciosa - most north easterly and smallest inhabited of the Canary Islands.
La Graciosa, of just 27 square kms, with 640 residents mainly in it's capital, Caleta del Sabo, receives between 200 and 400 visitors daily and is known for having the best beaches on Lanzarote. (Photo)
