According to FT.com, Welcome to the pleasure domes, "The world has gone mad on spas - suddenly they are everywhere like incense in a temple. Industry gurus claim that 20 such establishments are opening every month - either as stand-alones or as part of a hotel or resort."

Tenerife's answer to this opulent experience is embodied in the Oriental Spa Garden - over 35,000 square feet of gardens, pools, treatment and relaxation areas with elaborate décor and antique furnishings from Thailand - all part of the luxurious Hotel Botanico in Tenerife's northern resort of Puerto de la Cruz.

They don't mention if the 1 1/2 hours for the Chocolate Fondue Wrap treatment includes time to lick yourself clean (grin), but, whatever, this certainly seems to fit their ethic of indulgence!

That is indulgence with a conscience: many treatments feature products made with local, Canarian grown ingredients and, the environment is respected with solar heated water.

Opened at the end of 2003, the Oriental Spa Garden has earned a reputation as one of the top spa hotels in Europe.
