Speeding Away From The Beach

This is perhaps a strange thing to be doing at this time of year, but Belle Vue speedway star, Simon Stead, had to do just that.

Stead has been called into Great Britain’s World Cup speedway team for the opener, to stand in for the injured Mark Loram, but faces a desperate race against time to make it, because he had jetted out to Tenerife for a mid-season break.

Lions boss Neil Middleditch said he had called Simon but it took all day Friday to get him because he was on a beach in Tenerife. He was working on getting a flight home to make tonight's meeting.
