Long live the camphor tree and it does
The tree for July 2005 is the "Cinnamomum camphora" or camphor tree. A member of the laurel family (Lauraceae), this lush evergreen tree with its aromatic glossy green leaves is native to China and Japan. Marco Polo first mentioned the camphor tree during his visits to China in the 13th century.
As trade routes spread, so did the camphor tree. Today it flourishes not only in China and Japan and the Asian areas but also in Argentina, Australia, California, the Canary Islands, Egypt, Europe and Florida.
