If Carnaval capers are too rowdy for your taste, you might enjoy the annual classical music festival, from 7 January - 9 February 2005.

"The 21st Canary Island Music Festival once again brightens up the European winter. Since 1985 many of the world's great artists and orchestras have taken the opportunity of soaking up some winter sun and the renowned Canary Island hospitality. Seven weeks of concerts take place on both Tenerife and Gran Canaria."

One of the festival's objectives was to give an international status to the Canary Islands through something more than the traditional "cliché" of sun and beach which typifies the islands.
