Tenerife's Stare Telescope in New Planet Discovery

Investigators at the Canarian Astrophysics Institute (IAC), together with US scientists - using a network of small telescopes, which includes the Stare telescope located on Tenerife's Mount Teide - have made the first direct discovery of a planet outside our solar system that orbits a bright star. At a distance of 500 light years, the planet, baptized TrES-1, is of a size similar to Jupiter.
