State of Alert Over 40 Degree Temperatures

Public health announced a state of alert on Friday, against the expected high temperatures in the islands this weekend. The National Meteorological Institute advised that temperatures in the western islands could surpass 40 degrees centigrade.

Hospitals had not reported any incidence, either due to the temperatures or the calima on Friday, however, the persistence of these weather conditions aggravate risks, especially for children and people with respiratory problems. Sunday will be a crucial day for these groups after 72 hours of sirocco.

To reduce possible saturation at hospitals, the health department recommends that people go to local emergency centers first.
